HOUSTON-Two legends of the hard core scene gave White Oak Music Hall some much needed positive vibes Saturday night in Houston as Quicksand and Bane brought the breakdowns and energy.
New York’s Quicksand continues to carry the torch forged by Fugazi by perfecting post-hardcore as evident on its new album “Bring on the Psychics,” which new songs like “Supercollider “ and “ Crystalize “ translates well. As newer bands like Turnstile reinvent the genre at the mainstream level, don’t forget your roots, as Quicksand is one of Walter Schreife’s most important projects alongside Gorilla Biscuits , Youth of Today and Rival Schools.
Boston’s Bane, an important old school band and another East Coast icon, leaned heavier with “All The Way Through, ” “Final Backward Glance” and deep cut “Super Hero” as standout tracks. Bane is a band every hard core fan has to cross off their live bucket list.
Just days after the venue ignited the ire of music fans and Houstonians by hosting a political event by Ken Paxton, and were dragged on social media for it, Saturday’s show inserted some much needed fun.
