Rolling Stone recently released its list of the 100 best punk records of all time, and like any such list, there will always be debate associated. Below is the punkrockandufos version of the greatest punk albums of all time. It is understood in advance there are some notable omissions here from bands like X, Bikini Kill, Buzzcocks and Bad Brains, which are replaced by acts from the later 1980s era and 1990s. The list below also includes more ska/ ska punk acts ( Dance Hall Crashers, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish), bands that originated during the Warped Tour era (Rise Against, Lagwagon, Strike Anywhere, Anti-Flag), and an influx of classic hard core (Bane, Sick Of It All, H20, Gorilla Biscuits, Minor Threat). Goth punk is represented with albums from AFI, TSOL and The Damned. Bands that expanded what the genre is like The Clash, Refused, Jawbreaker, and Fugazi are here. There is some personal objectivity with the placement of blink-182’s skate punk classic “Dude Ranch” and Alkaline Trio’s brooding pop-punk of “From Here To Infirmary.” As far as the No.1 spot, well it was an album that revolutionized the scene bringing a sense of melody, speed, precision and intellectualism.
