'BIGFOOT!' takes Broadway with musical comedy

A new musical comedy “BIGFOOT!” has began its begins its limited engagement at Off-Broadway's New York City Center Stage I. According to a press release, the play is a "larger-than-life musical tale of corrupt politicians, small town paranoia, and misunderstood youth” that takes place in a town called Muddirt, which is a neon/ nuclear-setting.

In the play, according to Ruffin, Bigfoot is the product and scapegoat for a corrupt mayor.

The play is by Amber Ruffin, David A. Schmoll, and Kevin Sciretta and was directed by Danny Mefford. Bigfoot is played by Grey Henson. Ruffin is an Emmy nominee and received a Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical for “Some Like It Hot” and wrote for the 2024 version of “The Wiz.”

“What is bigfoot’s story?,” Ruffin told to TODAY about her inspiration for the play. “ What is a fun origin story?”
