Halloween 2022 recommendations: Driveways, 'Cabinet of Curiosities', 'American Werewolves'

From music to TV to film, these pop culture picks are right in time for Halloween.

MUSIC:

Driveways- “Into The Past” EP

Just in time for Halloween, Driveways have dropped its annual October release, which is another 8-song EP. “Into The Past” is what you’ve come to expect from this Massachusetts-based trio that blends early 2000s pop-punk with metalcore, and synth sections that sound like the soundtrack to a 1980s horror movie.

The only knock here is the band has one full-length album to its name, and multiple EPs that are just two songs away from being a proper album. Hopeless Records take note, this is a band to sign.

TV:

“Cabinet of Curiosities”-Neflix

From the other worldly imagination of Guillermo del Toro, Netflix’s horror anthology series “Cabinet of Curiosities” has arrived just in time for Halloween. Anthology series are generally hit or miss, and this applies here. There’s some UFO lore as well, as “The Autopsy” deals with a terrifying answer to the question of “are we alone in the universe?” and “The Viewing” even has a character named Targ that can bend spoons with his mind.

The true gem of the series is “Dreams of the Witch House.” This H.P. Lovecraft adaptation feels like Harry Potter meets PG-13 rated horror.

DOCUMENTARY:

Seth Breedlove and his Small Town Monsters crew never fail to disappoint. Their documentaries on the world of the paranormal perfectly blend boots on the ground research with topics and tales that tap into our imagination. Small Twown Monsters latest release “American Werewolves” is perfect Halloween season viewing for any cryptozoology enthuaist.
