INTERVIEW: 'Unidentified' witness David Marceau unafraid of 'alien' stigma

David Marceau appeared on the “UFOs vs Nukes” episode of season 2 of “Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation,” and his story stood out for many reasons, but his quote of “I knew it was an alien ship” drew some raised eyebrows from many.

Marceau, an Army reservist from 1990-1998, witnessed in 1992 an Oblong-shaped ship fly over the Canadian army base CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick where he was stationed. That night, Marceau and the other guard on night watch “Mike” were covering their “pads,” which are remote ammunition storage bunkers. It was a clear night at around 11:20 p.m. when the hair on the back of his neck stood up, and all the natural sounds from the forest ceased. He looked up and saw a huge space craft, and he knew right away what he was looking at. It was stationary and then moved over the trees. He could hear a light static noise. “Mike” saw it too; the Oblong shape that was more than an acre long. He knew what to look for;it was not a commercial or military craft, and didn’t have wings, control services, and any other typical ship mechanisms. Marceau believed it was “scoping out” their capabilities . In the episode, Marceau told Luis Elizondo from To The Stars " he “knew it was an alien ship.”

“One of my first blog articles was about how people were starting to use ‘UAP’ in place of ‘UFO’ because of the stigma associated with the old term, “ Marceau said. “I thought it was silly to try to rename these things.  It is a masquerade. …Then in season I of ‘Unidentified’, everyone seemed to be beating around the bush about what was being observed.  We don’t know if the Russians or the Chinese have leap-frogged us, we don’t know if this is some secret U.S. technology…  I had already covered that in my blog, and in social media discussions.  What I concluded was, if the ship I saw in 1992 while on Canadian soil, was some secret technology we would have seen it on the battlefield between then and now.  It was so advanced, so many thousands of years ahead of what we have, that if any one country possessed it, there would no longer be any individual countries.  We would live in The United States of Earth – either every country in the world would have handed over the keys to their kingdoms to the single superpower, which possessed this technology or they would have been obliterated for standing up to it.  Does anyone really believe Russia would not use this power against us, to dominate the world?  Would the U.S. tolerate China’s territory expansion if we had it?  Would China hesitate to expand further if they had it? Since this tech had not been used on the battlefield in three decades, there was no reason for me to change my mind and believe it was of this world.  Therefore, there is no need to beat around the bush.  Let’s address the elephant in the room.  These UFOs or UAPs or whatever you want to brand them as, are alien spaceships.”

There’s a reason why many in the military who have these sightings are weary to report them; ridicule. Marceau said the experience left him traumatized. When he saw the ship he was scared, and when he tried to report to his chain of command he was met with ridicule, which could add additional stress to any anomalous encounter witness.

“I realized as soon as the event began that people would not believe me and that speaking about it would make me look like a nut,” Marceau said. “That was the least of my worries, though. The trauma was from the event itself.  Imagine being alone in the woods exposed in a large clearing, guarding a stockpile of ammunition and explosives with an M-16 which had an empty magazine – no bullets.  I was a sitting duck.  Along comes an enormous spaceship which travels so slowly it’s barely moving.  I could not move because I was experiencing a level of terror which is indescribable, and it persisted for 5-7 minutes.  I would relive that terror every time I tried to tell someone the details of what happened, for decades afterwards.  I know now that it was PTSD.”

Since his sighting, Marceau has become somewhat of an investigator of his own with his blog “I Saw One Too,” which isn’t afraid to discuss paranormal topics from UFOs to Bigfoot. In one of his blog postings, he describes his sighting as “the weight albatross.” Twenty-eight years later, as more military witnesses come forward, they may also read his site and feel comfortable discussing the paranormal as freely Marceau.

“To be clear, I am comfortable discussing UFOs but not with ‘the paranormal’ in general,” Marceau said. “  I am only into UFOs and aliens because I have actually seen an alien spaceship with my own eyes.  If I ever have a close encounter with a Bigfoot or a demon then I will update that statement.  I take a scientific approach to all this, although I also try to have some fun with it. It is important to understand that when the average Joe has an experience like I did at Gagetown, it would be unusual to instantly jump from anonymity to blogger or YouTuber.  More likely, they would follow a path similar to the one that I did.  I hear others from ‘Unidentified’ telling their tales and it sounds like that is exactly what happened to them too. The path goes something like this: you immediately tell one or two people,  they don’t believe you and make fun of you, you become guarded and only tell a few close friends and family for the rest of your life, and  end of story. …I feel like with the help of TTSA, society has turned a corner in the discussion of UFOs.  It is becoming more acceptable to talk about.  Still, even with my blog www.isawonetoo.net approaching 100,000 page views, and an appearance on TV under my belt, I do not talk about the subject with everyone I know.  I have a reputation in my community to uphold.  When I’m BS’ing with the other dads on the sidelines at school ballgames, for example, this subject never comes up.  Few people I interact with socially know that I am involved with the UFO community.  …Other paranormal topics?  Well, I would not hold my breath on the general public being comfortable with that any time soon.”

In his blog, Marceau also details the process being on “Unidentified,” and hopes more witnesses come forward as part of bravery Elizondo, Marceau and others have shown.

“I was a fan of Lue’s since I read the first New York Times article on him,” Marceau said. “I had been mostly silent about my sighting for three decades because although I wanted to report the incident, I did not know whom to report it to.  I filed a report on MUFON or NUFORC sometime in 1996, but no one ever called me.  When my wife sent me the article on Lue, I told her, this was the guy who could do something with my information – and he did.  How could I not appreciate that? I think TTSA has the ability to further normalize the conversation around UFOs.  We have already seen that begin to happen, as hundreds of service personnel have begun to talk about their experiences. Some people want to paint Lue and TTSA as some type of ‘agents of misinformation.’ If that were true then they really suck at it because they have gotten a lot of people, both experiencers and non, to speak, to debate, and to question what the government knows.  That is the opposite of what you do when you want to keep something quiet.  I am glad they are doing it and I believe that years from now history books will speak positively about what they accomplished.”

Marceau will stay busy next few weeks as he will try to raise money for men’s health with the  the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, as well as upcoming appearances on the UFO Podcast, and a Sept.14 episode of “Somewhere In The Skies.” Marceau also promises a big guest coming soon on his YouTube channel.

Q:In your blog you describe your experience as “I used to attribute this aural experience to the animals sensing danger.” Since then, and from what you’ve studied, do you still perceive it as “danger” as in safety concern, or “danger” as in unusual experience that threatens our everyday normality?

MARCEAU: “I would only be speculating in a response to this question.  I will begin by saying that today I believe the silence was due to some type of noise cancellation technology the ship had.  I find this to be the best explanation of how everything including the ship, and the nighttime forest critters could suddenly be silent but then, as the ship gained some distance on my location I could hear a faint static sound.  I noticed the forest creature sounds had come back, afterwards.  I have reasoned that as I exited the ship’s field of silence (due to the ship slowly moving away from me) the static was the sounds around me returning.  It’s like if you use an old manual-dial radio.  As you dial in closer to a station, there is static, then the static mixes with recognizable sounds, then you hear the sound clearly. Now, it’s possible that the forest creatures did sense some danger.  Whether that is due to a safety concern or an unusual experience thing, I don’t know.  Was it a sixth sense that crickets and tree frogs have but humans don’t or are not tuned into?  Maybe?  I did sense that something was over there before I saw the ship.  I felt like someone was watching me in my sleep, like when you open your eyes at night and someone (maybe your child or a sibling) is standing in your doorway, gazing upon you.  Maybe everything around me felt it, too.  I doubt that, but I am open it. Another possibility is that I was so terrified that my blood pressure spiked, and my ears plugged up.  The pressure dropped when I felt the ship was no longer a threat, so my hearing returned.  I like these scientific explanations best.”
